Hey gang, Ryan here,
It’s June 2nd; Summer is already here! We just premiered You Are Here, wrapped Stealing Time, and voting has closed on our first set of user-submitted constraints that will determine FF01 (our numerical moniker-system for films that don’t have an official title yet), which I will be directing, and will premiere August 1st. I know that was a mouth-full, but I think that’s fitting considering how busy all of us at Finite Films have already been. What I’ve mostly been busy with up until now has been editing our weekly video production diaries, which I hope everyone has been enjoying.
In order to release a film once a month, Alex, Michael, and I are taking turns directing each film, and each film has a two month period to be completed (starting from when the constraints are locked in on the first of the month, and premiering on the first of the month two months later). With this system, there will always be one of us who isn’t directing any given month, allowing that person to take the lead on production diaries – I’ve been up first for this duty. For May, our inaugural director, Michael, was in post-production on You Are Here and Alex was busy getting ready for and shooting Stealing Time.
Now that May is over and the constraints are in for my first Finite Films…film, I’ve handed the production diary torch over to Michael (his first one premieres tomorrow, I’m looking forward to it!) Not only is this my first Finite Film film, but it is our first one based on user-submitted constraints (exciting), as well as our first one that has a two month production schedule (daunting, but still very exciting).
Luckily, I have our resident screenwriter Ben Waldorf co-writing this one, as well as the rest of our team to help alleviate immense amount of work that goes into making a film (check out the Bios page).
Be sure to watch our production diaries to see exactly how much work that is! More importantly, though, you can see how we’re incorporating the seven final constraints that you selected to make up our next film, FF01.
1 – An item crucial to the story must be found in the Craigslist “free” section.
2 – One character must remain perfectly still for at least two whole scenes.
3 – Must contain a scene where a countdown to some event features prominently.
4 – One character must always use a window instead of a door, including cars.
5 – A character must stand up for something they believe in, and be alone in doing so.
6 – The first scene of the film must be the same as the last scene.
7 – All movie music must be diegetic (must come from within the world of the film, e.g., the radio, a concert).
Alright, back to it. Remember, you can submit constraints at any time!
