Constraints • A scene must take place in a laundry room.
• Someone has a wall full of sticky notes that they’ve written over a long time.
• Someone has to use the phrase “not really” and it has to break the other person’s heart.
• Nonlinear memory sadness.
• Must include a hug.
• Must include running desperately.
• One character has the happiest moment of their life, while another experiences their saddest moment.

Very impressed. I had a chance to read an early draft of this film ages ago, so I’m glad I finally got to see it on film. Simple, but resonant. Amazing use of music (I’m a bit of a Death Cab fan so I thoroughly enjoyed hearing “Brothers On A Hotel Bed” playing in the car), and the shots were stylish without coming off as pretentious. After watching this and having been able to meet a lot of you already, I can safely say that great things will come from this. Can’t wait to see what you guys do next.

Really enjoyed it. So glad to see a short film that tells a story that actually means something. Wonderful ending that Shashona Brooks pulls off. Clever transitions, evocative music and good writing. And, of course, love the wide screen look. Great start FF!

Stop making Shashona cry please. Shashona you make it hurt in a meaningful way everytime. It’s an old Emily Marbleberry wound. Constraints are hard. This feels a bit like familiar territory though, but that’s probably an unfair comment. Nevertheless, that opening running sequence into stairs and hugging felt very very new and intriguing. And it goes without saying that visually its beautiful and just, polished. Well done.
