Finite Films Contest!

Hello everyone! Happy 4/21!

4/21 is a special day for Finite Films, because most of our films feature the number “421″ as a kind of easter egg for those who know about it. So today, we’ve decided to turn it into a little game.

If you are the first person to find the “421″s in Stealing Time, The Kristy Corollary, Forest Falls, Anamnesis, and Lovebound: Love Abounds, you will win TWO FREE TICKETS to the Finite Films screening at the United Film Festival – Los Angeles!

The “421″s can appear forwards, backwards, as a time (1:24), or even as today’s date (April 21st). Here’s an example from Occupational Hazards:

Some of them can be pretty small, so we recommend watching in HD to make sure you can see them all.

When you find all the “421″s just send us the screenshots, or the timecode of where you found it (mm:ss, e.g. 04:15). You can E-mail it to us, post it to our Facebook, or tweet the screenshots @finite_films. You have until the end of this weekend.

Finite Films to be featured in United Film Festival – Los Angeles!

This week we received some exciting news from the United Film Festival – Los Angeles: they’re going to showcase three of our films on the big screen here in LA! Come join us the first ever theater screenings of You Are Here and Occupational Hazards, followed by the WORLD PREMIERE of Imperfect! The event will take place on May 3rd at 5:15pm at the Los Feliz 3 theater in Los Angeles.

The whole Finite gang will be there to do a Q & A after the screening. We hope to see you on May 3!!

Storyboarding FF08

Hey everyone!

It’s been a busy week here at Finite Films since we premiered Lovebound: Love Abounds. I spent the week furiously storyboarding Imperfect so that we could start planning out how we’re going to get all the 180+ shots involved. Our team has been working very hard to get everything ready for the first day of filming next week.

I like to have very specific storyboards so that we know exactly who is in what shot, what is supposed to be happening in the frame, and generally what the lighting set up should be. Here are a couple examples of some storyboard frames from Imperfect (I’m not an artist and have terrible handwriting, forgive me):

On Friday we had a photo shoot for the film with photographer Isaac Sterling, where we gathered several pictures of the lovely Chrissy Randall (who plays “Lorna” in the film) that we’ll use for magazine covers and other kinds of set decoration. Here’s a quick glimpse:

Now I must start doing some visual fx tests, as there are few tricky shots to plan for. Come back tomorrow for a new production diary!

Lovebound: Love Abounds

Our first out-and-out comedy, Lovebound: Love Abounds, has premiered!

I’d like to give a big special thanks to our post-production crew, including our visual effects supervisor David Sims, composer Aaron Gentry, and sound editor Daniel Clark. In the last week they’ve worked tirelessly to ensure the project was something they would be proud to put their name on, which as a director, is the greatest feeling in the world.

I also can’t fail to mention the amazing dedication the rest of our cast and crew gave throughout the whole production process.

So pop some popcorn, pull up your office chair, corral a friend or two, and enjoy Lovebound: Love Abounds.

“Lovebound: Love Abounds” Status Update; Stills

Hey gang,

Our kookiest comedy yet, Lovebound: Love Abounds, is currently in post-production. We’re imminently locking picture and are going to try our hardest to turn around the final product a week or so from now.

Until then, here is a hodgepodge of stills to tide you over, the first of which are direct screen grabs taken from the current cut.  Also included are some behind-the-scenes pictures.

The Constraints for June Film!

The results are in! Here are the official constraints for our June Film:

• The entire internet goes down. All of it, nobody has internet. – Eric B.
• Someone is about to remember everything they forgot, in a rush, and it’s not going to be pleasant. – Josh T.
• Someone is about to run into their doppelgänger while on a date. – Dave N.
• A character is a major fan of someone who has been dead a while, but is unaware of their death. – Tiara
• Three characters must be siblings and live in the same apartment/house. – Barbara W.
• A character must spend an entire scene not knowing something that’s completely obvious to the audience. – Carl M.
• Every scene takes place exactly one year before the previous scene. – Ben C.

Congratulations to the winners! What an interesting set of constraints, I’m excited to see what this one becomes.

In the meantime, the Finite Films team is beginning to enter post-produciton for Lovebound: Love Abounds, and moving toward production on April Film. Look for some behind-the-scenes photos and more production diaries soon! And until then, keep submitting constraints, and happy Leap Year-day-thing!

Voting is officially open for the next film Ryan will be directing, to be released in June. Will the internet go down everywhere as someone is about to go to a Renaissance Fair, or will there be a scene shot as a time lapse of a character who hates Marilyn Monroe?

“March Film” Title, Cast, and Synopsis Announcement

Lovebound: Love Abounds
Hey Gang,

While Anamnesis was in its final post-production push, we were also working on pre-production for our March-release film I am directing.  Last Sunday marked our first day of production.  The title?   Lovebound: Love Abounds.

Lovebound: Love Abounds is our first all-out comedy, and a very silly one at that.  Check out the synopsis and cast list (of which I couldn’t be happier with) over at the film’s page, and be sure to stay tuned for plenty behind-the-scenes content via pictures and production diaries.

Here are the constraints we had to follow:

• Somebody must solve a mystery that nobody else cares about. – Max K.
• A character must say the line: “I’m pretty sure that is going to mess everything up…” – Mike C.
• No one can die. – Ben W.
• One character must always have a song stuck in their head, but not quite know what it is… – Deborah J.
• One character must be a sex therapist. – Stephanie C.
• At least one full minute of the film must not include any dialogue. – Ana K.
• One actor must be cast for a character of the opposite sex. – G. W.

Anamnesis Premiere

Anamnesis Poster

After a lot of late nights, and a lot of incredible work from some very talented people, I’m pleased to present Finite Film’s first production of 2012, Anamnesis!

Making this movie was a really intense, wonderful experience. Thank you SO much to everyone who made it possible (you know who you are)! We’ll be posting more behind-the-scenes production diaries in the coming weeks so you can see what went into making this one.

In the meantime, I’d recommend watching Anamnesis in HD with a good pair of headphones or speakers in a dark, quiet room :-)
