Lessons from the Screenplay

Hi Finite Fans, Michael here with an announcement! I believe that the more you understand how something works, the greater appreciation you have for it. That by learning about the techniques used to tell great stories, your experience of them is richer and cheap manipulations are less effective. You become a more informed audience member, and inspire storytellers to aim higher. So today I’m excited to announce that I’m launching a new YouTube channel called

Anamnesis in Fullscreen

Today we’re very excited to announce that Anamnesis is making its debut on a brand-new streaming platform we’re very excited about: Fullscreen. Fullscreen aims to be a Netflix-style streaming service for the YouTube generation, featuring original programming and neat social media features (like the ability to make GIFs out of any moment from your favorite shows…we’re going to have a lot of fun with that…). You can try Fullscreen for 1 month free. Give it a shot

Today is the anniversary of the release of Anamnesis. It’s strange that it’s already been a year, and we wish that we were announcing more episodes — spoiler alert, we’re not — but we did feel like we should release something. After releasing Anamnesis, we took Season One on the emerging television festival circuit, including SeriesFest in Denver and NYTVF in New York City. While we managed to squeak by on a shoestring budget producing Season One,

Tommy with our Finite crew: director Alex Calleros, D.P. Terrance Stewart, and producer Ryan McDuffie. To the right of us is Eli Graham, producer and social media director with Cheech and Chong, and Brett Banditelli, the national digital director of The People For Bernie Sanders 2016

Up until now my political activism hasn’t really intersected with my work at Finite Films, but that all changed last month. If you happen to follow me on Facebook or Twitter, it is probably abundantly clear to you that I am a BIG supporter of presidential candidate Bernie Sanders. Turns out the rest of the Finite Films team feels the same way, and that’s why we jumped at the opportunity when we were approached by producer Eli Graham

In addition to (finally) releasing our long-awaited web series, Anamnesis, Finite Films spent a good chunk of 2015 focused on another project you may not know about—a feature documentary directed by Paul Mariano, with whom I previously collaborated on the 2011 Sundance doc These Amazing Shadows. These Amazing Shadows delved into the Library of Congress’ National Film Registry—a collection of America’s most culturally and historically important films—and the efforts being made to preserve them for the future. You can watch the

Miami Web Fest

Hi All, I just got back from the Miami Web Fest, where Anamnesis took home the awards for Best Sci-Fi Series, Best Actress (Mallory Marie Wedding), and Best in Festival! Miami was (of course) gorgeous, and I met other great web series creators, including the team behind CON (which took home the Best Drama and Best Actor awards), as well as John Launchi and Mike Ryan of Help Yourself. You can check out their comedy

Since the release of Anamnesis in April, we’ve been working hard to promote the web series and expand its audience. With the infinite amount of content available online, it’s been hard to break through the noise—but the tide seems to be changing. Just today, we found out we’ve been nominated in the Best Drama AND Best Indie Series categories in the 5th Annual Streamy Awards, which will be broadcast live on VH1 September 17th! Thanks

We’re excited to announce that we’ve finished the festival cut of a feature documentary we’ve been working on since October, Being George Clooney.  The film takes a look at the world of voice actors who dub Hollywood films internationally, using the question “who are all the people who voice George Clooney around the world?” as a jumping off point. Alex, Michael, and I have been editing the film since the end of October, and Finite

Advice for how to “become” a successful filmmaker always boils down to one thing: make films. This is the first step. Make lots of films. Because if you’re just starting out, it takes a lot of experience just to get to a point where someone besides your friends and family can truly enjoy your movie. We know this from experience. Make a film, get feedback, critique it openly and honestly, and then do it again.

Anamnesis will be released on April 12th! All five episodes of the web series will be released Sunday, April 12th—official Lucid Dreaming day! Now, you might be saying…“Wait, wait, what was Anamnesis again? It’s been so long I can’t remember.” I don’t blame you. To recap, Anamnesis is a web series that was inspired by the short film that shares the same name, and in late 2012 we launched a Kickstarter to raise funds to produce
